eComm Final Reflection

The Scope

When our company, Stellar, created Space Specs, our vision of it turned out just the way we planned. Even though everyone had different variations of ideas, we all had the idea of how the product would look and work. The creation of the product itself was not very difficult, because it was easy to envision and was also a realistic invention. In the purpose of this assignment, we were told to create every aspect of how a real product would be presented, and I believe our team achieved all of these requirements in the making of Space Specs.

The Process

In the brainstorming process of ideas for our product, it was a bit difficult because some members were gone around this time. However, most of us came to an agreement on my idea of telescopic glasses, even if it took a bit of convincing. From there, the sketching process for the logo was easy. The team wanted two S's connected somehow, and Chelsea's idea of putting a planet in between them correlated with our product very well. Our consistency of the use of cool (vs. warm) colors and astronomy related graphics made the final product look whole and "put together". Everyone worked together to complete the website. I took charge of storyboarding for the video because I already had an idea of what it would look like in my head. All of these processes led to a finished product in the end.

This is the banner I created for the website.
In the production stage, we combined all of our graphics and inserted them in the site. The all had a certain uniqueness to them, nut the message of Space Specs was clear in every graphic. Members were split between whose video to use, but eventually we split Chelsea and I's videos to create one, with the ending of mine being used. The animation was the easiest aspect, because the idea of the packaging I would use popped into my head right when I was assigned to it. It showcased the glasses well.

My Contributions

What I Learned

Along the way, I was refreshed on how to use Google SketchUp, because I hadn't been on it since quarter 1. I used different tools that I hadn't used before to create the desired packaging, which made the product look very good in the long run. On the other aspects of the product, I mostly learned how to collaborate professionally and work as a team. We all contributed in different ways, and everyone had a certain skill that made the product the best it could be. I learned that even when someone wasn't very good at one aspect of the product, they made up for it with the use of their talents in other areas. Our project deadlines were met, because our project was, for the most part, split evenly among the members of the team.

Q: What would I do differently and what would I do the same?

The things I would change were present in my presentation of the product. I created the script and had it laid out how I believe it would flow the best, using correct word choice. When I presented, I stumbled a little on my first sentence, which made me cautious, so I looked at the script. I believe I was projecting well, because I've had plenty of experience with projecting. I would have kept my projection the same, but I would've liked to gain my confidence back after stumbling so I would not have looked at my script so much. I did look up after very sentence or so on the first portion, so I believe that aspect was partially achieved. I believe that sticking to the script was important because the word choice was fluent, but next time I won't look at my script, which is why I received a grade I am not proud of. I would stick to the same graphics and animation, with only minor tweaks to the storyboard, if I had another chance. This experience has taught me how to work well with others, which I will do the same in future collaborations. I will continue being the same presenter I am, but will be more confident in doing so next time.

In general, I enjoyed creating this project and was happy with the people who created it along with me. Our teamwork skills were great, which was the key aspect of this project. I believe that my creativity flourished throughout every aspect of the project, and was showcased well in the final product. In conclusion, my technical skills and professional skills have increased dramatically over the course of the year. I am proud of what I achieved.
